Who We Are
Ultraviolet Wind was born out of my frustration—and desire for freedom.
Like so many of you, I’ve battled with my hair for years. I loved experimenting with different styles and colors, but with every new product, I was left with the same sinking feeling: these chemicals weren’t just changing my look, they were damaging my hair, my health, and my confidence.
For over 20 years, I’ve been making natural substitutions in my own life—finding healthier alternatives to beauty and household products that are free from toxins. Why? Because I knew there had to be a better way. Most products are filled with harmful chemicals that take a toll not just on your hair, but on your body. They promise beauty but often leave you feeling worn down, damaged, and frustrated.
The final straw for me came when I discovered I was sensitive to propylene glycol—a chemical banned in most of Europe but still commonly found in beauty products in the U.S. This ingredient was lurking in nearly everything I used, especially my hair products. When I was told I should never use products with it again, my heart sank. I thought, *There goes my hair color.* And the worst part? The few safe products I found were either ineffective or just another cocktail of chemicals.
I was tired of it. I didn’t want to keep poisoning myself just to feel beautiful. I wanted to feel free—free to change my look, express myself, and love my hair without fear of long-term damage. But the beauty industry wasn’t offering that. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
My journey with dreads started as a way to reclaim that freedom and also some of the fullness and body my hair had lost over the years. I started with natural dreads, then wool dreads, and finally even extensions, on natural dreads but nothing felt quite right. Then, I discovered what I termed Mermaid Dreads—and everything changed. They were the perfect blend of fun, beauty, and versatility. For the first time, I could change my hair length and color whenever I wanted, without chemicals or damaging treatments. I no longer had to wait years for my hair to grow. I could experiment with bold, vibrant colors for a month and then opt for something softer and more natural the next. And most importantly, I could finally feel like *me*—confident, healthy, and radiant.
I realized I wasn’t alone in this struggle. So many women (and men too) are tired of the constant battle with their hair—of feeling trapped between wanting to express themselves and fearing the damage that comes with it. We deserve better.
That’s why I created **Ultraviolet Wind**. To bring you the freedom to be your most authentic, beautiful self—without the chemicals, without the damage, and without the limitations. I wanted to create a place where you could feel empowered to change your look as often as you want, whether it’s for a few weeks, a season, or a lifetime. A place where your unique beauty is celebrated, and where you can embrace your individuality with confidence.
Ultraviolet Wind Dread Shop is more than just a store—it’s a community of people who believe in the power of self-expression, who refuse to be limited by the status quo, and who are ready to reclaim their hair, their health, and their confidence.
So if you’ve ever felt like your hair was holding you back, or like you had to sacrifice your health to feel beautiful, I see you. You deserve the freedom to look and feel amazing—without compromise.
